What are Combat Cards?
Combat Cards are hand-made cards that we send overseas to our armed
forces serving in Afghanistan, Egypt, East Timor, PNG, or anywhere else
Australian soldiers are serving. All cards are donated free of charge.
Why make Combat Cards?
Overseas deployments are usually in countries very different to Australia and soldiers don’t usually have access to a “corner shop”, so we send them cards for various occasions that they can then send home to their families – partners, children, mothers, fathers, friends. This is our way of supporting our soldiers, not necessarily the deployments but the people involved and their loved ones – it’s our way of saying we care.
Who can make Combat Cards?
Card makers, scrapbookers, crafters in general – just about anybody. It is a great way to use up scraps and leftovers from other crafts. If you are new to card making or want to give it a go then please contact Kathy. There are a couple of rules so please read the checklist/guide before creating!
What if I'm not a Cardmaker? How else can I help?
We are happy to accept donations of cardstock, envelopes, embellishments or other useful items. If you aren’t sure what is suitable, please don't hesitate to ask.
Contact: Combat Cards Victoria, Australia or email fynmore@internode.on.net
What sort of cards do we need?
We do have special days with specific deadlines that we cover, but every month we send the following: Birthday cards for men, women, girls and boys, Miss You and general cards with non-specific wording that can be used for a variety of occasions. We also send small quantities of engagement, wedding, new baby and sympathy cards.
We deadline special occasion cards 2-3 months before the actual occasion, to give us time to check, sort, pack and send them overseas and then the defence personnel to send them home so here are the deadlines:
The Rules! Not many, but important!
Multiple cards – we love multiples! 1,2 3,4, 5 or 20 – it doesn’t matter as our cards go to a variety of destinations and a lot of people so multiple cards will be split up, so go forth and multiply to your heart’s content!
Donations – we love donations! If you are not a card maker but wish to help out we love donations! 210gm cardstock we can make into card bases (A4 size is great and can be purchased in packs from stationery suppliers), C6 and DL plain envelopes (no windows please) and all sorts of embellishments and patterned papers, we love it all.

- End of January – Easter
- End of February – Mother’s Day
- End of June – Father’s Day
- End of September – Christmas
- End of November – Valentine’s Day
The Rules! Not many, but important!
- ABSOLUTELY NO LOOSE GLITTER! - Kindy glitz and similar products (imbedded glitter) are fine but if you run your hand over the card surface and any glitter comes off on your hand then we can't use it. Reason - these cards go to places where cleaning facilities are limited, and anything that could attach to personnel or uniforms and make them visible (shiny, sparking glitter!) in any way could put them in danger.
- Standard size cards are easier - we
have C6 and DL envelopes donated by supporters, so cards that fit these
are best. If you do make non-standard cards, please supply a suitable
envelope or we may not be able to send the card.
- Card base 21cm x 15 cm, folded in half so the card face is 10.5cm x 15cm, fits a standard C6 envelope
- Card base 20cm x 21cm, folded in half so the card face is 10am x 21cm, fits a standard DL envelope
- Liners - if you use dark coloured card stock, please add a white or light single or double liner inside the card. We assume soldiers only have access to pencils and black biros so if you can't easily see the writing please add a liner.
- Handmade cards only - anybody can send store brought cards, this is our gift to those who are defending our freedom and the freedom of those who cannot defend themselves.
